For more than two decades, Mantoani took eye-catching portraits of athletes that appeared on the covers of Sports Illustrated and other magazines and on the boxes of Madden NFL and other video games.

Well into his career, wondering about things that lasted, he started a project documenting the people who had taken some of the past half-century's most iconic pictures. Using a large-format Polaroid camera, he made portraits of the photographers holding their masterpieces. This limited edition book of 450 copies, hard to find in any condition, is the result of six years of devoted hard work.
